re:percussion

Re:Percussion – The drumset as a multi-percussion instrument is a wokrshop that I lead, having its first edition at Conservatorio Giuseppe Vedi of Milan between December 2022 and February 2023.

—————-

This workshop is historical, theoretical and practical. Re:Percussion aims to give to students more awareness about the expressive possibilities of the drum set, helping to make more conscious choices in terms of timbres and colors, re-uniting the rhythmical and timbral aspects in search of a more personal and widened possible view of the instrument.
Knowledge and curiosity are the center from which each musician should make his/her personal research start.
The main task will be that of opening ourselves to new questions, instead of closing in new answers.

This will be anchor points during the workshop:

– history of the drumset: why we play what we play, where does this all comes from? Focus on cymbals, snare drum, bass drum.

– an overview of the most common instrumental techniques/methods used in the classical-contemporary western music academies, focusing on skin instruments.

– analysis of pieces for solo percussions as well as percussion ensemble, focusing on both compositional and performative aspects.

– improvising drummers and percussionist: an approach to music in which composed writing and improvisation influence each other and are in constant dialogue.

Here are the slides that I prepared for each lesson.
Please, be aware that this slides are mainly used as notes to support the talking/listening/reflecting part. For this reasons they might look messy, and direct logical connections between a slide and the other might not always appear to be clear.
The language is english and italian, quite randomly mixed .
